CVE-2024-12668

Driver-signature bypass via arbitrary zero write

Published Dec 16, 2024 · Updated Dec 16, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Velocidex WinPmem 4.1 and earlier allows local users with administrator rights to overwrite kernel memory via an IOCTL. The IOCTL_REVERSE_SEARCH_QUERY handler uses METHOD_NEITHER and copies a zero result through a caller-supplied output pointer without rejecting kernel addresses. Administrator access to the pmem device and the driver's memory disclosure are required to locate and clear g_CiOptions, disabling driver-signature enforcement and permitting unsigned driver loading.
