Subscriber-level settings and password modification via unchecked AJAX
Published Jan 16, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in Passwords Manager 1.4.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to change settings and add passwords. The pms_save_setting and post_new_pass AJAX handlers process submitted settings and password records without checking the caller's WordPress capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to alter the plugin's encryption key and create stored password entries, compromising protected data integrity.
