CVE-2024-1243Public exploitNetwork attack vector

System compromise via forced UNC authentication

Published Jun 11, 2025 · Updated Jun 11, 2025

Path validation failure in Wazuh agent for Windows before 4.8.0 allows remote attackers to steal machine-account NetNTLMv2 hashes. The localfile option accepts a server-supplied UNC location without restricting remote paths, causing the SYSTEM service to authenticate to attacker-controlled SMB or named-pipe endpoints. Exploitation requires control of the Wazuh server or an agent key; the captured identity enables NTLM relay, certificate forgery, or SYSTEM impersonation.
