System crash via unchecked process lookup failure
Published Apr 23, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Denial of service in Watchdog Anti-Virus 1.6.415 allows local users to crash Windows by sending IOCTL 0x80002014 to wsdk-driver.sys. The sub_140008D5C handler leaves ProcessImageFileName null when PsLookupProcessByProcessId fails, then passes it to stricmp, causing a kernel NULL pointer dereference. Low-privileged local access is required, and successful exploitation produces a BSOD that interrupts the entire endpoint.
