CVE-2024-12390Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated code execution via symlinked RAR extraction

Published Mar 20, 2025 · Updated Oct 15, 2025

Arbitrary file write in GPT Academic git 310122f allows remote authenticated users to execute code through a crafted RAR upload. The upload handler passes attacker-controlled RAR entries to Python's rarfile extraction path without rejecting symbolic links, so a link target can escape the intended extraction directory. Low-privileged application access and RAR support are required; writes to SSH keys, cron files, or application code can produce code execution under the service account.
