Authenticated RCE via uncontained 7z extraction
Published Mar 20, 2025 · Updated Mar 20, 2025
Path traversal in GPT Academic git 310122f allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary files through a crafted 7z upload. The upload archive-extraction path passes attacker-controlled members to py7zr without confirming that their resolved destinations remain inside the intended extraction directory. Low-privileged access to the upload feature is required, and a successful overwrite can execute code with the service account's permissions.
