Unauthenticated PHP upload via unchecked featured-image handler
Published Dec 13, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in AR for WordPress 7.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to upload PHP files via double-extension names. The set_ar_featured_image() function accepts an unauthenticated upload without checking a WordPress capability and permits a PHP-bearing double extension. Immediate deletion and dependence on select server configurations limit the consequence to brief unauthorized file placement.
