Stored XSS via unsafe link color rendering
Published Jan 17, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Brandon Dove RSS Icon Widget 5.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through link_color. The widget update path applies strip_tags to link_color, then the front-end renderer inserts the stored value into an inline style attribute without context-appropriate escaping. Administrator-level access is required, and exposure is limited to multisite installations or sites where unfiltered_html is disabled; visiting an injected page executes the script in a reader's browser.
