CVE-2024-12169Network attack vector

CMU restart via TLS resource-pool exhaustion

Published Mar 25, 2025 · Updated Mar 25, 2025

Denial of service in Hitachi Energy RTU500 Series CMU Firmware allows remote attackers to restart the CMU through IEC 62351-3 TLS. Hitachi Energy maps the flaw to an insufficient resource pool but has not disclosed which pool the specific IEC message sequence exhausts. The affected IEC function must use TLS; recovery is automatic, and published CVSS assessments disagree on whether privileges are required.
