Unauthenticated plugin installation via truthy error responses
Published Dec 31, 2024 · Updated Dec 31, 2024
Missing authorization in ThemeHunk Hunk Companion before 1.9.0 allows remote attackers to install and activate WordPress.org plugins. The themehunk-import route's permission_callback returns WP_REST_Response objects for failed checks, which WordPress treats as truthy values before tp_install downloads and activates requested plugins. A ThemeHunk theme and Hunk Companion must be active; an installed plugin can enable site takeover if it exposes a separate code-execution flaw.
