CVE-2024-11971Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Stored script execution via dangerous avatar upload

Published Nov 28, 2024 · Updated Nov 29, 2024

Stored cross-site scripting in the Avatar Handler in JPress 5.1.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute script through an uploaded file. The /commons/attachment/upload handler accepts the files argument without reliably rejecting dangerous file types, leaving attacker-controlled active content browser-accessible. A low-privilege account can plant the content remotely, but browser execution requires a victim to open the uploaded resource.
