CVE-2024-11931Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Protected variable exfiltration via CI lint authorization bypass

Published Jan 24, 2025 · Updated Feb 5, 2025

Access control failure in GitLab allows remote authenticated users with Developer access to exfiltrate protected CI/CD variables through CI lint. The CI lint POST endpoints default to simulating the protected default branch but fail to verify that the caller can merge or push to that branch. A Developer who knows or guesses a protected variable name can place it in a remote include URL, causing lint expansion to send the secret to an attacker-controlled server.
