Subscriber-level alt-text modification via unchecked AJAX handlers
Published Nov 28, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in RS WebStudios Image Alt Text 2.0.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter any image's alt text. The iat_add_alt_txt_action and iat_update_alt_txt_action AJAX handlers update attachment metadata without checking the caller's capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to change alternative text on arbitrary media-library images, affecting content integrity without modifying image files.
