Unauthenticated shortcode execution via unchecked REST identifier
Published Jan 3, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Code injection in Hector Cabrera WP Popular Posts 7.1.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary shortcodes via the REST API. The unauthenticated GET handler in ViewLoggerEndpoint.php concatenates an unchecked id parameter into a wpp_views_count shortcode and passes the resulting string to do_shortcode. A crafted request can invoke any shortcode registered on the WordPress site, with effects limited to behavior exposed by installed shortcodes.
