Code execution via rapid confirmation keypresses
Published Nov 26, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Improper keypress handling in affected Firefox and Thunderbird desktop releases allows remote attackers to execute a downloaded file. The Downloads Panel accepts two rapid Enter presses: the first opens the executable-file warning, and the second activates its enabled OK button before it can be evaluated. A malicious site must persuade the user to download a dangerous file, open the Downloads Panel, and press Enter twice; successful exploitation launches the file with the user's privileges.
