CVE-2024-11696Network attack vector

Signature enforcement bypass via uncaught manifest exception

Published Nov 26, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Improper signature verification in Mozilla Firefox before 133 allows remote attackers to bypass add-on checks via a broken manifest. Firefox ESR before 128.5 and Thunderbird before 133, including its ESR line before 128.5, are also affected; XPIDatabase.verifySignatures lets loadManifestFromFile exceptions halt validation of later add-ons. Exploitation requires user interaction with an invalid or unsupported extension manifest, and the bypass affects unrelated add-ons only when signature inconsistencies exist.
