Path traversal in Mapshaper before 0.6.44 allows local users to read files outside the web root through mapshaper-gui requests. The mapshaper-gui HTTP handler passes a parsed request path to fs.readFile without rejecting '..' segments, allowing resolution outside its web root. The local web interface must be running and reachable; exploitation discloses files readable by its process without modifying them.
