CVE-2024-11596Public exploit

Application crash via ECMP buffer over-read

Published Nov 21, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2026

Buffer over-read in Wireshark 4.2.0 through 4.2.8 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.1 allows attackers to crash the application. The ECMP dissector reads beyond the available packet buffer while parsing a malformed ECMP payload, causing the process to abort. Exploitation requires packet injection onto analyzed traffic or user interaction with a crafted capture file, and the documented consequence is process termination.
