CVE-2024-11595

Packet-analysis hang via FiveCo RAP infinite loop

Published Nov 21, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2026

Denial of service in the FiveCo RAP dissector in Wireshark 4.2.0 through 4.2.8 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.1 allows attackers to hang packet analysis. The public advisory identifies an infinite loop while the dissector decodes malformed FiveCo RAP input but does not disclose the faulty loop condition or code path. Exploitation requires packet injection into a live capture or user interaction to open a crafted capture file, and the resulting CPU exhaustion interrupts the analyzing process.
