CVE-2024-11499Network attack vector

CMU restart via in-use certificate update

Published Mar 25, 2025 · Updated Mar 25, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in affected Hitachi Energy RTU500 CMU firmware allows remote authenticated users to restart the CMU. The IEC 60870-4-104 controlled-station certificate-update path dereferences a null pointer when certificates are replaced while active connections still use them. Exploitation requires authenticated, authorized access and an in-use certificate; the CMU restarts and then recovers automatically.
