Privilege escalation via unchecked password-policy API
Published Dec 11, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
Missing authorization in Rapid7 Insight Platform before November 13, 2024 allows remote authenticated users to alter the password policy via API. The password-policy settings API accepts a crafted update from a standard user without checking the administrative authorization represented by the user interface. A valid standard-user account is required, and exploitation changes the organization's password-policy configuration without reported data disclosure or service interruption.
