Code execution via unsafe Trax checkpoint deserialization
Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Dec 4, 2024
Deserialization in Hugging Face Transformers before 4.48.0 allows attackers to execute code through a malicious Trax model file. The Trax conversion script opens insecure checkpoint formats and deserializes their contents without validating that the objects are safe. Execution requires a user to download the crafted model and invoke the obscure conversion script, after which code runs with that user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
