Stored XSS via unrestricted Synthetics file upload
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 1, 2025
Stored XSS in Elastic Kibana 7.17.6 through 7.17.22 and 8.4.0 through 8.11.3 allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript. Synthetics file-upload handling accepts crafted HTML or JavaScript files without restricting dangerous types, allowing stored content to execute in a victim's browser. Exploitation requires Synthetics app access or write access to its indices plus a victim who opens the content, exposing browser-accessible data and actions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
