CVE-2024-11168Network attack vector

SSRF via bracketed host misvalidation

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

SSRF in affected CPython urllib.parse versions allows remote attackers to bypass URL host validation with a bracketed non-IP host. The urlsplit and urlparse path extracts text between brackets as a hostname without verifying that it is IPv6 or IPvFuture. When one parser validates a URL and another consumes it, the mismatch allows a request to reach an unauthorized host; affected releases are before 3.9.21, 3.10.0 through 3.10.15, 3.11.0 through 3.11.3, and 3.12.0a1.
