Account takeover via unprotected profile update
Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in GetSimple CMS 3.3.16 allows remote attackers to change an authenticated user's password via profile.php. The /admin/profile.php handler accepts the demonstrated cross-origin POST and applies attacker-selected password and profile fields without adequate CSRF protection. Exploitation requires an authenticated user to load attacker-controlled content, and a successful request seizes that user's account by replacing the password.
