CVE-2024-10940Network attack vector

Arbitrary file read via prompt path input

Published Mar 20, 2025 · Updated Mar 20, 2025

Arbitrary file read in affected LangChain Core releases allows remote attackers to read host files through prompt path input. The ImagePromptTemplate format method accepted a user-controlled path and passed it to image_to_data_url, whose encode_image helper opened and Base64-encoded that file. Exposure requires an application to let attackers control the prompt path and return the template output directly or through downstream model output.
