Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked user-meta write
Published Nov 13, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in Vanquish WordPress User Extra Fields 16.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain Administrator access. The ajax_save_fields() handler lacks a capability check, letting subscribers create an editable field that check_and_overwrite_wp_or_woocommerce_fields() writes into wp_capabilities. Subscriber-level access is required; rewriting that user-meta value grants full WordPress administrative control.
