Subscriber-level plugin installation via missing capability check
Published Nov 16, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in WPXPO PostX 4.1.16 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to install and activate arbitrary plugins. The install_required_plugin_callback AJAX handler accepts a plugin descriptor and invokes WordPress installation and activation operations without checking the caller's capabilities. Subscriber-level access and a valid page-exposed nonce are sufficient; code execution additionally depends on installing and activating another vulnerable plugin.
