Subscriber-level plugin installation via missing capability check
Published Nov 9, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in ThemeHunk Top Store 1.5.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to install arbitrary plugins. The top_store_install_and_activate_callback() AJAX handler checks a nonce but performs plugin installation and activation without verifying the caller has the required capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient; an installed plugin can add exploitable code that enables privilege escalation and remote code execution.
