CVE-2024-10526

SYSTEM code execution via writable service files

Published Nov 7, 2024 · Updated Nov 7, 2024

Privilege escalation in Rapid7 Velociraptor before 0.73.3 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM on Windows. The Windows MSI installer grants BUILTIN\Users WRITE_DACL on the installation directory, letting non-administrators give themselves Full Control over service files. A local account and an MSI-based installation are required; replacing or modifying those files causes the privileged service to run attacker-controlled code.
