Editor-level script execution via unsanitized SEO keyword

Published Nov 20, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2024

Stored XSS in Squirrly SEO before 12.3.21 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts through a saved SEO keyword. The Meta Keywords field stores script payloads without adequate input sanitization or output escaping and executes them when the editor page reloads. Editor-level access is required, and exposure is limited to multisite sites or sites with unfiltered_html disabled; the script can hijack a viewing user's session.
