Authenticated stored script execution via unsafe shortcode tag
Published Mar 30, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in List Category Posts 0.89.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through catlist shortcodes. The shortcode renderer accepts attacker-controlled HTML tag parameters such as excerpt_tag and emits them as element names without rejecting script. Contributor-level access is sufficient to save the shortcode in a post, and the payload executes in a visitor's browser when the post is viewed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
