Arbitrary file probing via vault path traversal
Published Nov 25, 2024 · Updated Aug 4, 2026
Path traversal in Keycloak before 26.0.6 allows remote authenticated users with high privileges to test arbitrary server-file existence. FilesPlainTextVaultProvider accepted traversal characters in a vault expression, resolved the resulting key outside the configured realm, and read that path. Exploitation requires rights to create resources such as an LDAP provider plus control of the remote service receiving the secret; otherwise, disclosure is limited to file existence.
