CVE-2024-10394

Credential theft via unthrottled PAG creation

Published Nov 14, 2024 · Updated Dec 23, 2025

Authentication bypass in affected OpenAFS Unix clients allows local users to steal AFS credentials from another user's PAG. The PSetTokens and PSetTokens2 pioctls generate new PAG IDs without applying the setpag path's one-per-second throttle, allowing repeated calls to roll the counter into an existing PAG ID. The attack requires a non-macOS Unix kernel cache manager, PAG-backed victim credentials on the same host, and enough repeated calls to roll over the PAG ID counter.
