Stored script execution via unescaped metabox settings
Published Jan 30, 2025 · Updated Jan 30, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Tracking Code Manager before 2.4.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts through post metabox settings. The “Or add a name” and “and paste HTML code here” fields accept script-bearing values that the plugin stores and inserts into a post preview without adequate sanitization or output escaping. Contributor access is sufficient, and execution occurs when the saved post preview is viewed, exposing the viewer’s WordPress session to same-origin script actions.
