CVE-2024-10238Network attack vector

BMC compromise via unchecked fld->used_bytes length

Published Feb 4, 2025 · Updated Feb 4, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in Supermicro X12DPG-OA6 BMC firmware 1.04.16 allows remote authenticated users to compromise the BMC. The firmware-image verifier trusts fld->used_bytes from an uploaded image without a sanity check, allowing that field to overrun a stack buffer. High-privilege network access and the ability to upload a crafted firmware image are required; successful exploitation exposes or corrupts BMC data and interrupts BMC service.
