CVE-2024-10228

Unauthorized filesystem writes via writable install path

Published Oct 29, 2024 · Updated Oct 30, 2024

Incorrect permissions in HashiCorp Vagrant VMware Utility 1.0.22 and earlier allow local users to write files through its Windows installer. The installer targets a custom directory whose path is not system-protected, allowing an unprivileged user to modify installation files. Only Windows installations are exposed; resulting impact depends on the modified file and includes privilege escalation in some system configurations.
