CVE-2024-10220Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Container escape via nested gitRepo hook placement

Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Nov 25, 2024

Path traversal in affected Kubernetes Kubelet releases allows remote authenticated users to execute commands beyond containers. When revision and directory are both set, validateVolume accepts a multi-component directory ending in .git, placing attacker-controlled hooks where Git runs them on the node. Pod-creation permission and use of the in-tree gitRepo volume are required; successful exploitation runs commands outside the container boundary.
