Local code execution via DLL search hijacking
Published Oct 17, 2024 · Updated Oct 18, 2024
Uncontrolled DLL search in VSO Software ConvertXtoDVD 7.0.0.83 allows local users to execute code through a crafted avcodec.dll. An undisclosed function in ConvertXtoDvd.exe resolves avcodec.dll through an attacker-controllable search path rather than a fixed trusted location. The attacker must place a malicious library in a searched local path and cause the desktop application to load it; the payload then runs in the application's context.
