CVE-2024-10082Network attack vector

Root account takeover via external authentication collision

Published Nov 6, 2024 · Updated Nov 6, 2024

Authentication confusion in Ericsson CodeChecker 6.24.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to gain root access through external login. SessionManager accepts dictionary, PAM, or LDAP authentication, then assigns system permissions solely when the returned username equals the generated root username. Exploitation requires an enabled external authentication service, an account matching the root.user name, and knowledge of that name; the session then controls all web-interface functions.
