Subscriber-level file upload via unsanitized avatar identifier
Published Oct 25, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Directory traversal in BuddyPress 14.1.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to upload files outside the intended directory. The Take Photo AJAX handler passes the id parameter to bp_avatar_handle_capture() before converting the identifier to an integer, so traversal segments enter the avatar destination path. Subscriber-level access and the webcam capture workflow are required, while double-extension handling depends on server configuration.
