Root code execution via CFF font overflow
Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Oct 28, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in HP LaserJet printer CFF font parsing allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code as root via a crafted PDF. The parser copies user-supplied embedded-font data into a fixed-length stack buffer without first validating its length. Exploitation requires network access to submit a crafted PDF; authentication and user interaction are not required, and successful exploitation executes code as root.
