Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Mar 18, 2024 · Updated Oct 27, 2024
Stored XSS in OTWthemes Buttons Shortcode and Widget 1.16 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via a shortcode. The shortcode renderer returns the user-controlled css_class attribute in page output without validation or escaping, allowing an event handler to enter the button markup. Contributor-level access is required to save the crafted shortcode, and the script executes when a visitor interacts with the rendered button.
