Root escalation via writable watchdog update script
Published Jan 30, 2024 · Updated May 29, 2025
Privilege escalation in Lamassu Industries AG Douro 7.1 allows physically proximate attackers with local access to obtain root privileges. A writable updatescript.js accepts attacker-inserted code, and creation of done.txt causes the root watchdog process to execute the modified script. Physical access and existing low-privilege local access are required; successful exploitation executes arbitrary code as root and can expose, alter, or interrupt the ATM.
