CVE-2024-0670Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via failed temporary-file overwrite

Published Mar 11, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Privilege escalation in the Windows agent in Checkmk allows local users to execute attacker-controlled files with SYSTEM privileges. The agent writes command files to C:\Windows\Temp and, when a guessed read-only filename already exists, executes that file after its rewrite fails. Exploitation requires local file access and prediction of the agent's process-based filename; successful code runs as LocalSystem.
