CVE-2024-0444Network attack vector

Code execution via unchecked AV1 tile count

Published Jun 7, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in GStreamer gst-plugins-bad before 1.22.9 allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted AV1 stream. The gst_av1_parser_parse_tile_list_obu function accepts a 16-bit tile_count_minus_1 value without enforcing the AV1 maximum of 511, then uses the resulting count while filling a fixed-size tile-entry array. Exploitation requires an application to parse attacker-controlled AV1 tile-list data and can crash the process or execute code in its context.
