Administrator account takeover via unauthenticated password reset
Published Jan 11, 2024 · Updated Jun 9, 2025
Weak password recovery in ForU CMS through 2020-06-23 allows remote attackers to reset the administrator password without authentication. The reset_admin_psw branch in /admin/index.php hashes the fixed string admin, writes that hash to the user record with id 1, and returns the hash. A single unauthenticated request reaches the branch, replacing the administrator credential and enabling administrative account access.
