CVE-2024-0402Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated file write via devfile tar path traversal

Published Jan 26, 2024 · Updated Jun 3, 2026

Path traversal in GitLab CE/EE allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary server files while creating a workspace. Ruby validation treats a tagged YAML key as encoded data, but the Go devfile parser restores it as parent; registry-support then joins an untrusted tar header name without containing relative traversal. Workspace creation with remote development enabled is required, and repository hook writes on single-host deployments enable code execution.
