Stored XSS via unrestricted shortcode tag names
Published Jan 18, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in WP Recipe Maker 9.1.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through shortcode tag attributes. Three shortcode renderers use the attacker-controlled tag value as an HTML element name without restricting it to safe tag names, permitting crafted markup to introduce executable script. Contributor-level access is required to store the payload, which executes when a user visits the injected page.
