CVE-2024-0259

LocalSystem escalation via writable service executable

Published Mar 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Local privilege escalation in Fortra Robot Schedule Enterprise Agent for Windows before 3.04 allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. The Windows service executable is writable by a low-privileged user, so replacing it runs attacker-controlled code as LocalSystem when the service restarts. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a subsequent service restart; successful use grants full control under the service account.
